Mugwort is an important food and medicinal resources in Korea. In order to confirm the biological activities of mugwort tea, we investigated its antioxidative, total phenolic contents, and antimicrobial activity. The 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl radical-scavenging assay showed that the Geomun-Do mugwort exhibits potent antioxidative activity. The total phenolic contents of Geomun-Do mugwort tea and tea-bags were higher than those of the other mugwort tea products. Geomun-Do mugwort tea and tea-bags were tested against the standard cultures Listeria monocytogenes, Staphylococcus aureus, Salmonella typhimurium, and Escherichia coli O157:H7. Geomun-Do mugwort tea and tea-bags inhibited against L. monocytogenes and S. aureus to a greater extent than the other mugwort tea products.
