지방 사립 사범대학 영어교육과 학생들의 진로 실태 조사

A Study of Pre-Service English teachers Career Decision and Preparation

사범대학은 중등교원양성이라는 특수목적대학으로 학생들은 교직을 염두에 두고진학을 한다. 하지만 높은 임용고사 경쟁률과 낮은 합격률은 사범대의 역할과 기능을 위협하고 있으며, 학생들 역시 진로에 대한 고민이 커지고 있다. 이에 본 연구는 지방 사립 사범대학 영어교육과 학생들의 진로결정과 진로 준비 상태를 조사하였다. 연구는 2016년 1학기 6월 첫 주, 일주일 간 온라인으로 이루어졌다. 연구에 참여한 영어교육과 학생 169명 중 125(74%)명이 교직 진출을 희망하였으며, 이를 위해 삼수 이상까지 임용고사를 응시하겠다고 응답한 비율은 67%에 이르렀다. 특히 1학년의 61.4%가 삼수이상까지 응시하겠다고 응답하여 임용시험 합격을 위해서는 재수와 삼수가 기본이라는 인식이 저학년에서부터 형성되고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 학생들은 자신들의 진로 결정에서 주요 요인으로 ‘적성’이라고 응답하였지만, 희망진로로 진출 하는데 가장 어려운 점 역시 적성에 대한 확신이라고 응답하였다. 때문에 학생들은 진로결정은 하였지만 희망 진로 진입을 위한 진로준비행동은 적극적이지 않은 모습을 보이고 있었다. 사범대는 사범대의 특수성과 관련하여 학생들의 진로결정 과정을 이해하고 학생들의 진로 인식 개선과 진로준비행동을 높이기 위해 구체적인 진로 지도와 진로 프로그램을 개발하여 제공해야 할 것이다.

The purpose of this study is to examine and understand the pre-service English teachers career decision-making process and preparation. For this study, 169 students in Kyungnam province participated, and the questionnaire was used for the investigation. The study focused on three areas; career decision, career preparation, and satisfaction about curriculum. The findings revealed that 74% of the students chose to be teachers, and 67% of the students were willing to take the national examination of teacher employment at least three times. The students responded that the most important factor they considered when choosing a career was their aptitude for teaching. However, they also expressed that they were uncertain about their aptitude for their career. The students indicated that this uncertainty was the biggest obstacle for them to prepare their career. With this reason, the students showed the passive attitudes toward seeking their career related information and putting efforts to achieve the goal. Due to the decrease of birth rate, the need for new teachers is rapidly decreasing. The teacher education college should consider the career diversification strategies and provide career counseling and carer preparation program.
