A Qualitative Study On The Children’s Experiences Of Relations with Grandparents in Co-parenting Family

This study aimed to describe the experiences and perceptions of children in grandparents co-parenting families, especially their relationships with grandparents. Participants of the study were nine upper-graders in elementary school. Semi-structured interview questions were developed, and interviews based on those questions took place twice per participant. Data were analyzed by using the constant comparative analysis method. Analysis produced a main theme Growing further on the basis of grandparent’s love. Four categories were identified (1) obtaining positive psychological support, (2) ambivalent feelings and expectations, (3) understanding of conflicts inevitable among two generations, and (4) learning the lessons from the wisdom inspired by grandparents. Discussions and suggestions for counseling, education, and future studies are proposed
