이(異) 문화 접촉을 다룬 연구들에 대한 탐색적 개관

An explorative review on the psychological study of inter-cultural interactions.

최근 들어 내국인들의 해외로의 관광, 유학, 이민, 파병, 근로자 및 경영자의 진출과 외국인들의 국내로의 관광, 유학, 근로자 및 경영자들의 입국이 증가하고 있을 뿐 아니라, 북한 주민들의 남한으로의 유입과 적응문제, 조선족 등 해외 동포들의 국내 진출에 따른 사회적 문제 가능성도 제기되고 있다. 국내의 연구에서는 이들 문제에 대한 심리학적인 연구가 알려지지 않았고, 일부 선행연구들에서 탐색적인 연구가 진행되어 오고 있다. 선행연구들에서는 여러 범주별로 이문화 접촉을 다루었고 이를 설명하는 여러 심리학적 이론들이 제기되고 있다. 이 논문에서는 우리나라에서의 이러한 이 문화접촉 실태를 살펴보고, 선행연구들에서 다룬 연구들 중 일부 범주들을 소개하고, 이들 문제들에 대한 경험적인 연구의 필요성을 제기하고자 하였다. 선행연구들에서는 이 문화 접촉의 여러 범주별로 상이한 설명을 해 오고 있는데, 한 범주에서 설명되는 이론들은 다른 범 주들에서는 적용에 제한을 받는 것으로 나왔다. 더구나 우리의 문화적 상황에서는 선행 연구들의 문화적 장면들과 다른 형태의 이 문화 접촉 가능성이 높다. 따라서 우리 문화권 안에서의 이 문화 접촉 문제들을 설명하려면 특별한 설명이론들의 필요함에 대하여 논의하였다.

The present study was designed to introduce the possibility of social problems by inter-cultural interactions and suggest further empirical studies on cross-cultural contacts. More and more Koreans have experience of foreign cultures by studying abroad, immigration, staying as peace keepers, workers, or managers. Also a lot of foreigners experience culture shock when visiting Korea be it traveling, studying, working. Furthermore the number of ethnic Chinese Koreans who had taken less prestigious jobs in the South Korean labor market and North Koreans who had fled away from poverty-stricken communist regime is increasing, which could be a major potential social problem for readjusting into Korean society. But, there have been few reports on those issues in Korea. Similarly little has shown about cross-cultural contact experiences through previous foreign literatures. Current inter-cultural interactions in Korea were explored by the aforementioned categories of immigrants, students, travellers, and managers, and introduced possible explanations based on previous studies in this paper. Also, the limitations of the theory and explanations of the previous works on the issues and needs of empirical studies on those issues were discussed.
