교육의 효율성과 타당성의 대립: 한국과 서양의 교육문화 비교

Efficiency versus Validity in Education: International and Domestic Trends

한국의 학생들은 거의 모든 학업의 동기가 시험과 그 결과의 활용에 초점을 맞추고 있는 반면 교육학의 이론가들과 정책 입안가들은 교육적으로 옳은 방향에 초점을 맞추고 있어, 효율성을 중시하는 현실과 교육의 타당함을 중시하는 이론의 괴리가 인지된다. 본고는 미국을 비롯한 해외의 교육평가 사례들을 검토하고 전반적인 세계적 흐름을 고찰하며, 한국의 교육평가 개선 사례들을 대조적으로 분석하여, 교육에 있어서 효율성과 타당성이 결국 상호 대립적인 개념이 아니라 현실에 있어서 동시에 추구될 수있음을 논증한다. 특히 효율성을 중시하는 한국의 교육현실에서 교육적 타당성이 보다 강조되어야 한다.

In most cases, Korean students find their actual motivation for learning in obtaining good results in various evaluations, whereas theorists and scholars in their academic works tend to value educationally desirable directions. Thus the concepts of efficiency and validity in educational practices seem to be in a contradictory, indeed irreconcilable relationship. This article examines several international and domestic cases in which educational evaluation has been revised in pursuit of validity, and discusses important implications for the betterment of Korean educational culture. In particular it requests that participants more highly value validity in practical realms.
