A Study on the Cultural Value of the Book Festival

본 연구의 목적은 북페스티벌의 역사 및 정책 분석, 사례조사를 통하여 북페스티벌의 개념을 재정립하고 북페스티벌이 가지는 문화적 가치를 재조명하는 것이다. 북페스티벌의 사례를 통한 시사점은 첫째, 역사적 공간을 기반에 둔 문화재생이다. 둘째, 북페스티벌의 참여를 통한 지역 내부구성원의 결속 강화이다. 셋째, 가족 및 지역을 중심으로 독서생활습관을 내재화시킴으로써 독서문화를 확산하는 것이다. 이를 통해 북페스티벌의 문화적 가치를 정립하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 북페스티벌은 독서문화 확산 및 독서 활성화를 통해 국가 경쟁력을 강화시킨다. 둘째, 지적 체계의 개방적이고 격의 없는 공유를 보편화시켜 공동체의 성숙과 사회통합을 이루는 데 기여한다.

This study reviews the cultural value of the book festival. We redefine the concept of the book festival by analyzing its history and policies as well as some examples. From these examples we derive various implications, including cultural reproduction based on the historical space; strengthening community solidarity through engagement with the book festival; and diffusion of the reading culture by internalizing reading habits based on the family and community. These implications connote the essential cultural value of the book festival. The substantive value of the book festival lies in its strengthening of the country’s competitiveness through the diffusion and vitalization of the reading culture. The conceptual value of the book festival derives from its support for an increasing sense of community and of social integration by generalizing a liberal, sharing way of thinking.
