This articleattempts to analyze the contents of “Azamikazaru‐no Ki (the note that I did not deceive)” and “Aitei‐Tsushin(to the loving younger brother communication).” DoppoKunikida wrote down his emotion when he took the first step on the Korean ground in “Aitei‐Tsushin,” and wrote about the impression again in “Azamikazaru‐no Ki” as his own diary. DoppoKunikida proceeded to the Sino‐Japanese War as a newsman of the militaries in 1894 and passed through Korea in the warship Chiyoda on the 19th of October, heading to the Liaotung of China and other places. In “Aitei‐Tsushin,” Kunikida wrote down his morethan‐ five‐month experiences in the warship in the form of a letter to his younger brother. “Love Younger Brother,” a novel which received a great popularity, was published as “Aitei‐Tsushin” posthumously in November, 1908. It may be said that his emotion portrayed in“Aitei‐Tsushin” came from the observing eyes that were trained and specialized through his religious life. Therefore, without a base of the faith of the deep spirit truth and Christianity, such an interpretation would not be obtainable, and it also accounts for why t was inevitable for him to write down his deep emotion in the diary.
