With the influence of Kachru’s model of three-circles of English (1990), English is recognized as the Lingua Franca in the globalized world. Accordingly, researchers in the field of WEs suggest that it is necessary to broaden one’s understanding of diverse types of nativized Englishes and attempt to understand multicultural contexts of Englishes that are currently being used in the world for communication. In this regard, it seems important to explore how Korean EFL learners, who belong to Expanding Circle group according to Kachru, view the concept of world English. In order to elicit their perspectives, the researcher collected data through survey, open-ended questionnaire, and interview. The results of the study show that a majority of Korean EFL learners recognize that the phenomenon of world English is a natural result of globalization. They also see the necessity of experiencing diverse types of Englishes. Even though a majority of the participants hold to the importance of possessing knowledge of WEs, they recognize that English education in Korea focuses heavily on American English. Because of this, they acknowledge the importance of following American English norms, especially in a formal educational context.
