Juvenile delinquency refers to conduct by children or youths that is either violative of the prohibitions of the criminal law or is otherwise regarded as deviant and inappropriate. The subject is treated in a variety of entries and articles, but the major purpose of this study is finding out and examing an integrated model which can be applied to explain korean juvenile delinquency adequately. The present study especially focuses upon the influence of bond with parents which is peculiar to korea these days on the juvenile delinquency. The variables employed in the model are borrowed from several sociological theories, especially Hirschi s social bonding theory, of juvenile delinquency. Hirschi, in causes of delinquency, assist that the attachment, commitment, involvement & belief are a factor of social bond. The model expects that a korean youth may feel burden if he fails to meet the expectation of his parents in his academic achevments. The guilty feeling results from the burden may lead to the seperation of the child from his parents, as a result he may get along with another juvenile who experiences the same misfortune and another social environment, Having almost no hope for the future, Hirschi s commitment, the students may indulge in the trival and minor delinquencies such as smoking, drinking, and etc, to the more serious crimes like gang fighting, hard drug use, and etc. The sample of the study consists of 500 high School juniors from 4 metropolitan cities of korea and 250 Chae-soo-sang from Seoul. The major findings of this study are resulted as follow.
