Development and Validation of a Measurement Scale for the Korea Hair Beauty Employees’s Job Stress(KHEJSS)

This study attempted to develop a Korean hair beauty employees’ job stress scale (KHEJSS) in consideration of work environment and features and verify the validity of said scale. For this, this study acquired the following results through a series of research procedures: Study I. According to an inductive content analysis using an open-ended questionnaire, beauty salon workers’ job stress showed up in seven categories: Salary (SA), relationship conflict (RC), emotional labor (EL), occupational disease (OD), black consumer (BC), practice environment (PE) and pressure in sales (PS). Study II. Based on the construct of beauty salon employees’ job stress, preliminary questions for 63 questions in 7 categories were prepared. Study III. The 63 beauty salon employees’ job stress-related questions were analyzed and sorted through kurtosis, skew, correlation analysis and reliability analysis. Then, factor structure and the model’s goodness of fit were tested through exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). In terms of a model’s goodness of fit for 24 questions under the final seven sub-categories, the following results were obtained:？？=408.849, p<001, GFI .899, IFI .956, CFI .956, TLI .947 and RMR .044. As a result, the KHEJSS was completed, revealing the best model’s goodness of fit. Study IV. In a correlation analysis performed to secure criterion validity for the KHEJSS, negative correlation was found with job satisfaction while positive correlation was observed with turnover intention with statistical significance. It appears that the KHEJSS would make a contribution to the in-depth understanding of beauty salon workers’ job stress and expansion of research areas as a measurement instrument in studying beauty salon employees’ job stress.
