This study investigates the correlation between maritime accidents of Korean merchant ships and seaworthiness. This study investigates the correlation between maritime accidents of Korean merchant ships and seaworthiness. Correlation analysis was performed using the marine accident statistics on 2008-2014 which is released by Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries of Korea. The seaworthiness is classified as the voyage capability and stowage capability. So, it divided into the direct factor and indirect factor whether the marine accident cause of Korean merchant ship was in the voyage capability or the stowage capability and or not it compared and analyze. The result of the research are as follows. Relative to maritime accidents, the accidents related to the voyage ability of Korean merchant ship is caused more by indirect factors such as the ability of the navigator, the administration and technology, the working attitude of crew than direct factors such as the departure stand-by badness, the aberrant of crew, the fire handling badness, the electrical wire later years, short circuit the engine and equipment operation unskillful, the hull and engine equipment deformity. And then the accidents related to the stowage capability of Korean merchant ships is caused more by indirect factors such as the aberrant including the waterway, port, route assisting device, the weather in which the normality is not, the irresistible force in the sea than direct factors such as the improper stowage of the passenger or freight.
