In the power struggle after the revolution which resisted the existing social and political order, women’s bodies were used as the battlefield. Women’s bodies were controlled by patriarchy, Islamism and secularism, and damaged by socio-political sexual violence. But the controlled women’s bodies eventually became a tool for breaking social norms and resisting violent politics that obliterated human rights. In this paper, I will study gender ideology, women’s bodies, and sexual violence before and after the Arab Spring, i.e. from the end of the Mubarak regime until the end of the Islamic regime which seized power after the Arab Spring revolution in June 2013. I will analyze the following subjects by using literature research methodology: first, gender ideology and sexual violence before the Arab Spring; second, women’s bodies that have been damaged by political sexual violence after the Arab Spring; the rebellious identity born out of victimhood; finally, the anti-sexual-violence initiative.
