Sustainable Regeneration Ways of the Deteriorated Downtown Residential Area - Focused on ‘Mural Village’, Suamgol in Cheongju -

The purpose of this study was to find the sustainable regeneration ways of Suamgol village through a survey on the village s present status and on the needs of residents and visitors. For the study, field survey and a questionnaire on 46 residents and 66 visitors were made. The major findings are as follows: On the living environment of the village, 1) Residents wanted (1) to alter empty houses into healthcare center and sporting space, (2) to remodel deteriorated houses into customized elderly residences. 2)It was needed to procure commercial space to make residents meet together and have economic activities, and to give visitors convenience. On the cultural experience, 1)Visitors wanted cultural participation programs, unique space or facility, various event and occasion. 2) For the cultural programs, it was recommended to make present craft shops remodeled rather than to make new spaces.
