Changes in Housing Tenure Type and Housing Size Reflected in the 2014 Korea Housing Survey and Influences on the Changes

This study was aimed to explore characteristics of tenure and housing size changes of households in Korea and influences on the changes. Using microdata of the 2014 Korea Housing Survey, housing situation of 12,469,165 households whose tenure and housing size information of current and previous housing were valid were analyzed. Major findings were as follows: (1) Among the subjects, 21.5% experienced upward changes in both tenure type and housing size, while 6.7% experienced downward changes in both. (2) Low-income households, households headed by females and/or households in Seoul capital region showed a greater tendency to experience downward changes in housing situation. (3) Housing stability of households headed by persons aged between 45 and 54 years or by persons with college degree or higher educational attainments, or mid-income households were also found to require more attention.
