This paper attempts to defend Lee s (2015) doublet analysis to Transparent Free Relatives (TFRs) from English dealing with some potential problems to this analysis raised by Song and Kim (2016), who proposed the late merger approach to TFRs in their (2015) earlier paper. It is shown that the doublet analysis can be maintained surviving the criticisms by Song and Kim (2016), and that the late merger approach still has more to say. In so doing, Lee s analysis is clarified and refined, thanks to them.
