Job Analysis for Sport Tourism

The purpose of the study is to generate basis of developing curriculum for the education of sport tourism experts. The study employed a systematic job analysis method to subdivide jobs of contemporary sport tourism industry into elements, and to develop job description. The study was conducted in three phases. First, the systematic procedure for job analysis was developed through literature review and expert meeting. Given the procedure, second, in-depth interviews were conducted with expert practitioners of sport tourism industry. Third, DACUM process was employed to develop job profiles in sport tourism. In this phase, DACUM workshops were conducted four times with 4 to 12 expert workers and professors in the field of sport leisure, sport industry, tourism, and education. DACUM panels discussed such topics as elements of sport tourism occupation, their description, the specific knowledge and skills required by workers in order to effectively perform their tasks as described. Finally, the study produced a job model for sport tourism, duty and tasks, and the specific knowledge and skills for competence of workers. More specific, the study developed five duties including planning and coordination, event and product design, marketing, facility management, and organizational management, and presented 35 specific tasks. The limitations and directions for future research are discussed.
