초등교사의 옷차림에 관한 질적 연구

Qualitiative Study of Elementary School Teacher Attire

이 연구는 초등교사의 옷차림에 대한 경험을 바탕으로 교사의 역할수행을 위한 바람직한 옷차림을 알아보기 위해 수도권지역의 초등교사 24명을 대상으로 심층면담을 하였으며, 이 연구를 통해 얻은 결론은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 초등교사의 학교에서의 옷차림에 대한 경험은 교과 성격과 수업활동에 맞는 옷의 착용이 수업의 효율성을 위해 필요하다고 하였다. 또한 의복류 중 정장은 활동에는 불편하지만 학교에서의 다양한 상황과 교사의 사회적 역할 때문에 필요한 옷이라고 보았다. 아동들은 학년에 따라 교사의 옷차림에 대한 관심이 다르므로 학년에 맞는 옷차림을 할 필요가 있었다. 둘째, 초등교사의 옷차림은 아동의 본보기가 되므로 아동의 의생활습관에 미치는 영향은 크며, 교사의 옷차림은 아동의 수업태도와 생활지도에 영향을 미친다고 보았다. 셋째, 초등교사는 교사의 바람직한 옷차림으로 교사로서의 정체성을 나타내는 옷차림, 노출이나 신체를 드러내지 않는 정숙성한 옷차림을 제안하였다. 넷째, 초등교사의 성별과 연령에 따라 옷차림에 대한 인식에 차이가 있었다. 남녀 교사모두 정숙성을 중요시 하였는데, 남교사들은 여교사들보다 예의에 맞는 옷차림을, 여교사들은 단정하고 깔끔한 옷차림의 착용을 통해 자신의 개성을 나타내고자 하였다. 연령별로 보면 20대와 30대의 초등교사는 업무의 효율성을 높일 수 있게 편안한 옷차림을, 40대 교사들은 활동과 교사의 정체성을 지킬 수 있게 다소 격식이 있는 캐쥬얼한 스타일의 옷차림을, 50대 이상의 교사들은 클래식한 스타일의 정숙한 옷차림을 하고 후배교사들의 모범이 되는 옷차림을 하고자 하였다. 이 연구는 초등교사 옷차림에서 교사의 역할수행을 위한 바람직한 옷차림의 보편적 의미를 찾기 위한 선행 연구적인 성격을 가지고 있으며, 이 연구를 바탕으로 초등교사의 옷차림에 대한 학부모와 학생들을 대상으로 한 연구와 중·고등학교 교사들의 옷차림에 대한 연구도 지속적으로 이루어지기를 제언한다.

This study finds out appropriate attire for elementary school teacher s role performance based on experience of 24 elementary school teachers. In-depth interview with 24 elementary school teachers in metropolitan city area are conducted and the results are the following. First, interviewees responded that appropriate attire for curriculum and coursework is necessary for teaching efficiency. Also, even though formal dress is uncomfortable it is needed due to diverse situation in school and social role of teachers. In addition, children of different grades pay different level of attention to the teacher s attire so teachers should dress according to their students grade level. Secondly, as teachers role in class environment is crucial, teachers attire serve as a model to children, hence it has significant impact. Also, the interviewees mentioned that teachers attire influence children s class attitude and guidance work. Thirdly, the interviewees suggested that appropriate attire should be the one that preserves teacher s identity, not revealing and silent. Lastly, different gender and age groups of school teachers have differing views on attire. Both male and female teachers consider silence as important. Male teachers prefer proper attire and female teachers prefer to be neatly and decently dressed while showing individuality. Regarding age groups, teachers in 20 s and 30 s prefer comfortable attire to enhance work efficiency, those in 40 s prefer casual attire which preserves both teacher s identity and comfortable enough for activity, and those in 50 s prefer reserved classic attire in order to serve as an example to the junior teachers. In conclusion elementary school teachers attire should be consistent with class activity, preserve teachers identity and reservation, and also it influences student guidance work and class attitude.
