이 연구의 목적은 실과 의생활 영역을 활용한 다문화교육 프로그램이 초등학생의 다문화 태도에 미치는 효과를 검증하는데 있다. 이를 검증하기 위하여 경기도 의정부시 소재의 B초등학교 4학년 2개 학급을 실험집단과 비교집단으로 선정하였다. 실험집단에는 실과 의생활 영역을 활용한 다문화교육 프로그램을 2011년 9월 4주부터 11월 1주까지 약 6주간에 걸쳐 실시하였으며, 비교 집단에는 교육과정에 의한 일반적인 수업을 실시하였다. 실험설계는 사전-사후 통제집단 설계법을 이용하여 적용 후의 효과를 분석하였다. 다문화태도에 대한 사전검사를 실시한 결과, 두 집단간에는 유의미한 차이가 없는 것으로 나타나 두 집단의 동질성을 확인하였다. 실험집단에는 실과의생활 영역을 활용한 다문화교육 프로그램을 실시한 후, 그 효과를 검증하기 위하여 사후검사를 실시하였다. 검사 결과는 SPSSWIN 통계 프로그램을 이용하여 t-test를 실시하였으며 유의수준은 5%로 설정하였다. 또한 실험집단 학생들의 다양한 행동 변화를 분석하기 위하여 행동의 변화를 관찰하고 소감문을 분석하는 등 정성적 분석도 실시하였다. 이 연구를 통하여 밝혀진 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 실과 의생활 영역을 활용한 다문화교육 프로그램을 실시한 실험집단과 실시하지 않은 비교집단의 다문화태도 점수를 검증한 결과, 5%수준에서 다문화태도 전체 및 3개의 하위영역 모두 유의차가 있었다. 따라서 실과 의생활 영역을 활용한 다문화교육 프로그램은 다문화태도 향상에 긍정적인 효과를 미친다고 할 수 있다. 둘째, 실과 의생활 영역을 활용한 다문화교육 프로그램을 실시한 실험집단의 전후 다문화태도 점수를 검증한 결과, 다문화태도 전체 및 개방성과 수용성, 융통성 영역 모두 5%수준에서 유의차가 있었다. 따라서 실과 의생활 영역을 활용한 다문화교육 프로그램은 실험집단의 다문화태도 향상에 긍정적인 효과가 있음이 검증되었다. 셋째, 학생들의 행동 관찰, 소감문을 분석한 결과, 실과 의생활 영역을 활용한 다문화교육 프로그램은 학생들로 하여금 다른 나라의 의생활 문화에 대한 호기심을 유발하여 타문화에 대한 그릇된 편견을 해소하고 다문화에 대한 긍정적인 태도를 형성하도록 돕는 것으로 판단된다.
The objective of this study was to test the effects of a multi-cultural education program on elementary school children s attitude toward multiculture with respect to clothing life. For this purpose, we hypothesized that there would be no difference between before and after the program and between the experimental group who participated in the multi-cultural education program applying clothing life and the control group who did not, and tested the hypothesis using two 4th grade classes at B Elementary School at Uijeongbu-si, Gyeonggi-do as an experimental group and a control, respectively. The findings of this study are as follows: First, when attitude toward multiculture was tested in the experimental group who participated in the multi-cultural education program applying clothing life and the control group who did not, significant difference was observed in overall attitude toward multiculture and all of its three sub factors(p＜.05). Therefore, it is concluded that the multi-cultural education program applying clothing life has a positive effect in enhancing attitude toward multiculture. Second, when attitude toward multiculture was tested in the experimental group before and after the multi-cultural education program applying clothing life was performed, significant difference was observed in overall attitude toward multiculture and its sub factors openness, acceptability and flexibility (p＜.05). Therefore, it is concluded that the multi-cultural education program applying clothing life had a positive effect on the experimental group’s attitude toward multiculture.
