본 연구는 2009개정 교육과정에서 도입된 [과학/실과] 교과군에 대하여 그 설정의 준거 및 그 타당성에 대해 내용분석방법을 통해 고찰한 것이다. 교육과정 개발자에 의해 교과군의 도입배경으로 제시된, 교육목적상의 근접성, 학문탐구대상의 유사성, 학문방법상의 인접성, 실제 생활양식에서의 상호연관성 등이 타당한지 확인한 것이다. 이를 위해 과학과와 실과 교육과정의 성격, 목표, 내용, 교수학습방법, 평가의 많은 내용을 분석하였고, 제시된 자료의 내용 중 비교의 의미를 갖는 부분을 따로 재분석하거나 표시하면서 위의 준거에 대해 하나씩 고찰하였다. 그 결과, 과학과와 실과가 하나의 교과군으로 묶일 만큼의 교육목적, 학문탐구대상, 학문방법상의 유사성, 인접성, 근접성을 찾아보기 어려웠다. 다만, 매우 부분적으로 그러한 유사성, 근접성, 인접성에 대해 논쟁의 근거가 될 만한 부분도 있었다. 이 연구의 결과는 2009개정 교육과정 총론의 교과군 도입에서 그 준거에 대한 어떠한 사전 연구나 학문적 검증이 없는 채, 비전문가들에 의해, 일부 집단의 왜곡된 판단과 인식에 따라 교과군이 도입되었음을 시사한다. 2009개정 교육과정이 본격 적용시 예상되는 학교현장의 혼란과 실과 교과 입장에서의 많은 도전을, 그리고 과학교과와 실과교과 간 내부간섭현상 등에 대해 고민할 필요가 있다.
This research aims to analyze a course group [Science/Practical Arts] defined in the 2009 Curriculum Revision in terms of grouping rationale and its validity with the content analysis methodology. More specifically, the authors see and check the resemblance of two areas in educational goals, objectives of learning or academic exploration, educational methodology, and practical life styles. Content analysis, comparison, and reanalysis are executed for this research, to find that two courses are not so close in many ways of references that may not be grouped as one group. That is, they do differ in educational goals, in objectives of learning or academic exploration, in educational methodology, and in practical life styles, except a small piece that may be subject to potential debate. The academic finding imply that 2009 Curriculum Revision might have been introduced, lacking serious preview or preparation of expert group in those area, by a small group of unbalanced an biased judgement or perception. It is worthwhile to consider any potential chaos, challenges given to Practical Arts, and internal conflicts between the course and Science, expected to occur at schools adopting the official curriculum.
