Interests in middle-and advanced-age households are mounting due to the rapid aging of our society. Their proportion in total households is on the increase, and their consumption is gradually exerting an increasing effect on the home market. Accordingly, this study attempted to analyze influences on household consumption such as the income element, the asset element and the demographical element by dividing the households of houesholders aged above their 50s by age group. As a result, it was found that earned income as the income element had the greatest effect on household consumption. But there was a difference in income from real estate and financial income according to the age group. Income from real estate had the greater effect on consumption expenditure on non-durable goods than financial income, whereas financial income had a greater effect on consumption expenditure on social participation than income from real estate. The households of the householders ranging from 50 to 64 years had a significant negative value in both consumption on non-durable goods and on social participation in terms of transfer income(both private and public), and the households of those aged above 75 years had a significant positive value. And property assets had a much greater effect on household consumption than financial assets in terms of the asset element. This study has the following implication : Retired hoseholders would need jobs for earned income. So there is a need to change the direction of assets from property assets occupying most of the assets of middle- and advanced-age households to financial income in order to revitalize their consumption on social participation. And the social-security policy for the elderly would be more effective for the super-aged household. The consumption of middle- and advenced-age households would contribute to the development of national economy by revitalizing the home market.
