아담의 묵시록과 유대 영지주의

The Apocalypse of Adam and Jewish Gnosticism -Suggesting a Third Quest-

본 소고는 나그함마디 문서와 아담의 묵시록(the Apocalypse of Adam)을 통해 영지주의를 이해함으로 영지주의 연구방법론을 제안함에 목적이 있다. 본 소고를 통해 필자가 제안하는 것은 총 세 가지다. 첫째, 영지주의가 “유대 영지주의”와 “그리스도교 영지주의”로 구분되며, 둘째, 아담의 묵시록은 “유대영지주의”를 이해할 수 있는 증거이며, 셋째로 “유대영지주의”가 “유대 신비주의 전통” 안에서 발전되어 왔다는 것이다. 필자의 제안은 로빈슨의 연구를 통해 이룩한 영지주의의 이해를 근간으로 한다. 소기천은 영지주의를 “유대 영지주의”와 “그리스도교 영지주의”를 구분함으로써 기존의 영지주의의 이해를 반박하였다. 필자는 이러한 흐름을 바탕으로 아담의 묵시록에서 발견된 그 증거들을 추적할 것이다. 아담의 묵시록은 이러한 연구를 위한 가장 좋은 영지주의 자료이다. 따라서 필자는 아담의 묵시록에 관한 기존의 연구들을 최대한 살펴볼 것이다. 특히 소기천이 “아담의 묵시록”을 비영지주의적 관점으로 접근한 입장을 새 탐구(New Quest)로 정의하고, 새 탐구의 영지주의의 대한 정의를 토대로 제 3의 탐구(Third Quest)를 제안할 것이다. 필자가 제안한 제 3의 탐구는 유대교 신비주의 카발라와 메르카바 신비주의에 대한 유대교 영지주의와의 관계성에 대한 제안이다. 제 3의 탐구는 유대교 영지주의의 흐름이 영지주의를 거쳐 현대 유대교 신비주의 안에 지속적으로 흐르고 있다는 점을 지적함으로 이러한 관점 하에 추가적인 연구가 필요함을 제안하는 것이다.

This is an essay studying of the Nag Hammadi Library and the Apocalypse of Adam through an understanding of Gnosticism and I have a purpose on suggesting a methodological type of Gnosticism. Through this essay I want to suggest three things. First, Gnosticism divides into Jewish Gnosticism and Christian Gnosticism . Second, the Apocalypse of Adam is understood as an evidence for understanding of Jewish Gnosticism . Third, Jewish Gnosticism had developed towards the Jewish Mysticism. My Suggestion is based on James Robinson s research of understanding Gnosticism. And What Gnostic divides into Jewish Gnosticism and Christian Gnosticism came from the result of Ky-Chun So research. I will examines such an evidence of discovering sources of the Apocalyse of Adam. The Apocalypse of Adam is a best material for studying Gnosticism. Therefore, I will check the Apocalypse of Adam. Especially, I suggest a new quest which is from Ky-Chun So s point of view, that is approaching the Apocalypse of Adam on the perspective of which is not non-Gnostic, and my third quest is different from it. My third quest presupposes an relationship between Jewish Gnosticism and Jewish Mysticism which mean Kabbalah and Merkabah in my essay. Hence this essay suggests a need about studying of Jewish Mysticism, for I am sure that Jewish Gnosticism is plainly concerned with Jewish Mysticism and that the contemporary Jewish mysticism is branch of Jewish Gnosticism.
