Cost reduction is one of the important harvests resulting fromthe technology development of the small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). But the prior and recent studies seem to shed little light on the antecedents to the cost reduction resulting from it. Therefore, this study focuses especially on the cost reduction through SMEs’ strategic use of external information network for technology development. In addition, this study makes an attempt to empirically investigate the impact of SMEs’ CEO-driven technology development on their cost reduction. With the ordinary least squares regression analysis by using IBMSPSS Statisitics 22 and the 2,000 samples of the South Korean SMEs, this study empirically revealed that SMEs’ strategic use of external information network for technology development has a positive and significant influence on their cost reduction through technology development. And this research empirically shown that the positive influence of SMEs’ strategic use of external information network for technology development on their cost reduction is higher when SMEs technology development is driven by their CEOs. Based on these findings, this study presents meaningful implications in both academic and practical point of views in regard to the management of technology for SMEs.
