The Chaire-à-Calvin rockshelter is located in the townland of Mouthierssur-Boëme, south of Angoulême, in the Department of Charente (France). This site, discovered around 1864, was excavated discontinuously from 1864 to 1972. The stratigraphy of the Palaeolithic (Magdalenian) sequence has been subdivided into nine archaeological levels. In this paper, a functional/use-wear analysis was conducted on the lithic assemblage from Layer 3. Observations on tool function complemented petrographic, typological and technological data in order to reconstruct the technological organization of lithic production at the Chaire-à-Calvin. This study would allow us to identify prehistoric human activities at the Chaire-à-Calvin through tool wear/function analysis and comparison with contemporaneous sites yielding data relevant to this matter.
