The Effects of Extension Activities Using Picture Books on Children s Reading Comprehension Skills and Creativity

본 연구는 그림책 활용 확장활동이 유아의 독해력과 창의성에 미치는 영향을 확인하는데 목적이 있다. 따라서 만5세 유아 38명을 선정하여 19명씩 실험집단과 통제집단에 배치하여, 실험집단에서는 6주간 주2회 12차시로 구성된 그림책활용 확장활동을 진행하였고, 통제집단에서는 어린이집 일과 중에 그림책 읽기 활동이 이루어졌다. 연구의 결과 첫째, 그림책 활용 확장활동을 적용한 실험집단의 유아들이 통제집단의 유아들에 비해 독해력이 향상에 효과적인 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 그림책 활용 확장활동을 적용한 실험집단의 유아들이 통제집단의 유아들에 비해 창의성이 향상에 효과적인 것으로 나타났다. 이상의 연구결과를 종합해 볼 때, 그림책 활용 확장활동은 유아의 독해력과 창의성 향상에 효과가 있음을 알 수 있었다. 본 연구에서 그림책 활용 확장활동이 유아의 독해력과 창의성 향상에 효과적인 방법으로 제시되었다는 점에서 그 의미를 찾을 수 있다. 따라서 독해전략을 교사의 발문이 포함된 그림책 활용 확장활동이 교육현장에서 적극 활용된다면 유아들의 독해력과 창의성 향상에 더욱 효과적일 것이다.

The purpose of this study was examine the effects of extension activities using picture books on children s reading comprehension skills and creativity. In this study, 19 five-year-old children were selected in each experimental group and control group. The extension activities using picture books were carried out on the experimental group over a period of six weeks, twice a week, 12 times in total. Picture book reading activity was conducted on the control group during class hours. The results of the study were as follows: First, children s reading comprehension skills improved from the experimental group that performed the extension activities using picture books compared to the children from the control group. Second, children s creativity improved from the experimental group that performed the extension activities using picture books compared to the children from the control group. By observing the above results of the study, it showed that extension activities using picture books were effective in improving children s creativity and reading comprehension skills. The results of the study were meaningful that the extension activities using picture books were an effective method to improve children’s reading comprehension skills and creativity. Therefore, if extension activities using picture books with the teacher providing questions to children are applied in the children s education field, it will improve children s reading comprehension skills and creativity.
