일반고등학교 야간자율학습 운영과정에 관한 질적 사례 연구

A Qualitative Case Study on the Operational Process of Night Self-Study at General High Schools

이 연구는 일반고등학교 야간자율학습의 운영과정을 연구문제로 설정한 후, 심층적으로 드러내고자 하였다. 그러기 위해서 학교, 교사, 학생의 3가지 차원으로 야간자율학습의 운영과정을 살펴보고, 그 의미와 특징들을 살펴보아 그 속에서 나타나는 야간자율학습의 실제적 문제를 밝혀내는 것이 목적이다. 자료수집 및 분석은 2015년 9월부터 2016년 4월까지 순환적으로 진행하였다. 연구결과, 학생들에게 있어 야간자율학습은 공부시간 절약과 대학입시에 유리한 점을 얻을 수 있다는 장점과 강제적인 성격을 가지고 있는 단점을 가지고 있었다. 교사들은 야간자율학습을 학생들의 성적향상과 더불어 학교 간 경쟁으로 인하여 불가피하게 시행되어야 하는 측면이라고 하였다. 학교에서는 야간자율학습을 통해 대학진학률을 높이고 ‘고교선택제’에서 살아남기 위한 생존의 수단으로 보고 있다. 각 주체들이 가지는 의미로 인해 야간자율학습의 규정이나 규칙들이 준수되지 않는 현상이 벌어지고 있다.

The present study focuses on the Operational Process of Night Self-Study at General High Schools and its effects on each staffs and members of schools: school, teachers and students. The data were collected circularly for 8 months, from September, 2015 to April, 2016. The results revealed that Night Self-Study affect both positively and negatively on each staffs and members of schools. As for students, Night Self-Study helps them save study time and advantages their university entrance; on the contrary, its compulsory nature may bring about negative consequences. Teachers regarded Night Self-Study as one of the inevitable curriculum to promote students’ achievement in competition. By maintaining Night Self-Study system, schools strive to raise college entrance rate and survive under select by middle school graduate.’ Due to the different meanings of Night Self-Study to each staffs and members of schools, its rules and regulations tend to be often ignored.
