미국급진정치경제학의 “패러다임 전환”에 대한 소고

On the Paradigm Shift of U. S. Radical Political Economics : A Surrender to Liberalism or a Radicalization of Liberal Discourse?

본 논문은 1980년대 말에서 90년대에 걸쳐 일어난 미국 급진정치경제학의 소위 “패러다임 전환”(paradigm shift)을 재조명해보는 목적으로 쓰여졌다. 이러한 전환을 단지 일부 급진정치경제학자들의 우경화 내지는 신고전학파 경제학으로의 투항으로 보고 말 것인지, 아니면 자본주의 비판적 담론으로서의 자유주의의 급진화의 가능성을 모색하고, 이와 동시에 마르크스주의의 자본주의 비판의 폭을 넓히려는 시도로 읽어낼 여지가 있는지를 살펴보고자하는 것이 이 글의 목적이다.

This paper revisits so-called “paradigm shift” that was put forth by some group of radical political economists in the late 80’s and early 90’s. The purpose of the paper is to examine if the “shift” was no more than a rightward swing of some radicals i.e., a surrender to neoclassical economic paradigm, or if it could be regarded as an attempt to radicalize liberalism as a critical discourse of capitalism and, at the same time, to widen the Marxian critique of capitalism.
