신경에서 지낸 시인 백석

만주국 경제부, 백석 거주지, 조선인의 요설 지역, 창씨개명

이 글을 통해 백석의 문학이 태어난 장춘 지역의 배경을 살펴 보았다. 첫째, 1940년 2월에 백석이 신경으로 가서 3월부터 9월까지 일했던 만주국 경제부를 찾아가봤다. 이 시기에 백석이 신경에 안착하도록 도움을 준 박팔양과의 관계를 살펴 보았다. 둘째, 백석의 거주지였던 동삼마로의 풍경을 살펴 보았고, 그와 연관지어 「짜오탕(澡塘)에서」라는 시를 분석해 보았다. 셋째, 돈푼깨나 있는 조선인들이 요설을 부리며 살고 있다고 백석이 지적했던 서칠마로(西七馬路) 지역을 살펴 보았다. 넷째, 백석이 창씨개명을 하지 않았다는 주장과 달리 백석이 어떤 과정으로 창씨 개명을 했을지, 「북방에서」에서 보이는 백석의 심상을 비교하며 살펴 보았다. 장춘에서 세 군데에 대한 현지 조사를 했다. 그렇지만 백석이 이후에 이사간 ‘관성자’에 대한 정확한 정보를 서술하지 못했고, 다시 동삼마로 근처 ‘국도의원 2층’을 현지에서 찾지는 못했다. 이 자료는 이후 더 준비와 취재를 보강하여 찾아보려 하고 다음 숙제로 남긴다. 이번 연구는 신경에서의 백석 관련지에 관한 보충적인 정보를 제시했지만 작품과의 연관성을 제시하지는 못했다. 발표 이후에 수정하면서 관련지와 작품과의 관계를 보강하려 한다. 부족하지만 이러한 시도를 통해 당시 국제 관계 속의 한국문학의 풍성한 비의(秘意)를 불러낼 수 있기를 바란다.

In the 1940s, the poems of Baek Seok mostly treated the subject matters which he described his wandering life in Xinjing(新京, New capital) of the Great Manchu State(Manchukuo). This study research the life and poems of Baek Seok in the Xinjing. Baek Seok s poems written in the 1940s are products of his wandering life in Manchuria. Although he worte the important poet in Xinjing, his whole life in this period is almost unknown. The aim of this paper is to reconstitute the political, cultural atmosphere of Manchuria. Some articles in Mansun Ilbo (만 선일보), a Korean newspaper pulished in Xinjing in the 1940s, suggest useful informations about the life of Baek Seok. Baek Shok experienced severe conflicts between his individual truth and the colonialism, and wrote some poems like From the Northern Edge(1940). This poem showed his sorrow and nihilism confronted in the city during the first year in Manchuria. Baek Seok showed us that he realized the fate of a poet and accepted it willingly. He urged korean people had to endure their pain for keeping Korean soul . He also noticed the value of the historical custom and laziness when most korean intellects and writers liked following modernization and speed. This research is based on a unique foundation that modem characteristics of Baek Seok s poetry can be verified through the way he used Visual imaginations in his work. This study is about Baek Seok s poems which had an excellent literary achievement in the late of 1940 s.
