(Crucial Factors and Strategies of Hog Farm Management to Improve MSY)

The primary purpose of this study is to enable individual hog farms to choose necessary strategies for efficient farm management, which, in turn, would lead to successful Korean hog industry in the upcoming severe competitions with foreign imports. A survey was designed with questions of factors that potentially affect the farm productivity level (MSY), and was conducted by in-depth interview with more than 500 farm managers. The data collected were focused on the MSY, farm workforce status, the characteristics of farm managers/owners, hog barn facility and wasting disease control system. We divided farms into two groups based on the MSY level: top 20% and bottom 20%, and found that there are several farm management factors that cause the MSY to rise by using two different kinds of analytical methods, the Decision Tree Analysis and Categorical Regression Analysis.
