(An Investigation for Current Status of Food Data Use and Demand for Food Statistics)

Food statistics are important since they are closely related to our daily life. Recently, the link between food industry sector and domestic agricultural sector becomes an important issue. Therefore, it is required to analyze the structure of food industry and its relationship with domestic agricultural sector. This causes a necessity to improve related data and statistics. However, the demand has not been met to date in terms of quantity and/or quality of food statistics. This study investigates current status of food data use, satisfaction feedback, subject matter of improvements, required data and statistics in the near future through a survey toward specialists, practitioners, and general users in food and agricultural sectors. Results suggests that they want detailed information regarding food statistics, user-friendly information service and interface of homepage, expanded scope of data, detailed and/or complete information of each data set, increased credibility of the statistics, observance of announced release date and adjustment of release period, and etc.
