(Effects of Heifer Ratio on Efficiency of Dairy Management)

This study investigates the effects of the heifer ratio in the dairy farm on milk production. The average milk production per cow is regressed on the ratio of heifer, the non-pregnant period, the age of sexual maturity, and the average number of farrowing. The empirical model represents a milk quasi-yield function of which explanatory variables are the crucial factors on milk productivity. The estimation results indicate the average milk production is negatively influenced by the ratio of heifer. The dairy farm is expected to increase a milk production by 0.27 percent if it can reduce the ratio of heifer in the farm by 1 percent.
