라오스의 한 청년센터 참여자 간의 ‘하찮은 일’이 갖는 교육적 의미 고찰

교육 ODA라고 불리는 국제교육협력에 대한 관심은 증가하고 있고, 이에 대한 이해를 위한 연구도 다각적으로 진행해왔다. 특히 교육적 의미에 대해서 논의되어 왔는데, 대체로 참여자의 성장에 초점을 두어왔다. 이는 한국의 정책이 가진 특성 때문인데, 이에 대한 새로운 접근의 필요성이 제기되어 왔다. 본 연구는 이러한 연구의 지평을 넓히기 위해 미시적인 입장에서 지원 사업과 교육 프로그램이 진행되는 과정에서 교육적 성과에 영향을 미치는 일상생활에 초점을 두고 논의하였다. 이를 위해 일상생활에서 접할 수 있는 ‘하찮은 일’이 가진 상징적 상호작용 의례적 그리고 교육적 의미를 기술하고자 하였다. 접근 방법은 질적 연구였으며 1년 간 현장에 참여하여 변화 과정을 살펴보았다. 특히 연구 대상이 보여준 다양한 일상생활의 ‘하찮은 일’ 중 본 연구는 성적농담과 음주문화에 의한 의례에 초점을 두었으며 이를 통해 유대관계가 형성되는 과정을 보여주었다. 본 연구를 통해 얻은 결론은 국제교육협력에서 프로그램을 성공적으로 진행하기 위해서는 일생생활의 ‘하찮은 일’들이 중요함을 알게 되었다. 즉, 일상생활에서 맺는 상호작용들은 일종의 의례 성격을 가지고 있으며 이를 통해 궁극적으로 유대관계가 형성되어 프로그램의 운영에 중요한 영향을 미친다. 또한 본 논의는 교육적 의미에서도 참여자들 모두 적극적이고 능동적으로 프로그램에 참여하여 효과를 확대할 수 있도록 하기 위한 제언으로 일상생활과 현지문화에 대한 이해의 중요성을 강조하고 있다.

Previous studies have been focusing on participants’ growth in terms of educational meanings, while an interest on so-called educational ODA, has recently increased international cooperation within education. It is because of governmental policy orientations in South Korea that researchers have asserted a new approach for Korean international cooperation in education. Thus, this study aimed to focus on and to understand everyday life in terms of micro-perspective. The study expected to expand research boundaries of international cooperation in education, because everyday life influences educational achievement in the process of managing educational programs. In order to achieve this aim, this study attempted to describe ‘trivial thing’ in terms of interactional ritual and its educational meanings in everyday life. This study used qualitative research that was collected as data in the field for one year. As a result, this study highlights a process of forming relationships through rituals in cultures of sexual jokes and drinking habits among various trivial things in participants’ everyday life. Therefore, this study understands the importance of recognizing trivial things in everyday life for achieving specific goals of educational programs in international cooperation within education. In other words, interactions, in everyday life, involve characteristics of rituals and cause formation of relationships which importantly influence program management. This study also suggests an importance of understanding everyday life and local cultures to in order to actively and positively increase participation in educational programs as the educational meaning.
