세계문자 서울선언의 의미와 문자 다양성 보존의 도덕적 원리

: 관용 원리를 넘어 ‘서로-살림’에로

이 글은 세계 문자심포지아 2015 기조강연을 위해 쓰인 것이다. 이 글의 주요 내용은 다음과 같다. 1. 오늘날 문자 다양성은 크게 줄어들고 있는데, 그다양성 위기 상황은 5가지 단계로 분석될 수 있다. 2. 문자 다양성 위기의 사상적유래는 서양 현대 문명의 기초로 받아들여진 관용에 놓인다. 3. 관용의 문제점은 ‘서로 살림’의 윤리를 통해 극복될 수 있다. 4. 문자 다양성은 ‘세계문자 평등’을 그 핵심으로 하는 세계문자서울선언의 외침들이 이루어질 때 되살릴 수 있다.

This paper is to deliver a keynote speech at 2015 World Script Symposia. Main contents are summarized as follows: 1) The diversity of written languages has decreased significantly and the risky situation can be analyzed through the five stages. 2) The ideological origins of written language diversity at risk is the tolerance , which is the spiritual foundation of modern Western culture. 3) Challenges of tolerance can be overcome by ethical practices of ‘Mutual Understanding for Coexistence’. 4)The diversity of written languages can increase again, when people make efforts to implement proposals and declaration at World Script Symposia , based on the realization of the equality of the world s written languages.
