A Discussion of Research Paradigm Changes : Qualitative Research Intensification in the Agriculture Sector

This article introduces the application of qualitative research in the agriculture sector by reviewing international literature using a systematic review method. The qualitative methodologies described in the literature included ground theory, phenomenology, ethnography, narrative research, and qualitative content analysis. Individual interview and focus group discussion were the predominant methods used for qualitative data collection. The usefulness of implementing qualitative research techniques was investigated throughout the sub-themes of agricultural economics, including food consumption, labor, land/forest, rural society/development/tourism, management, environment/resource, climate change, and livestock. The qualitative research method is suggested as a complementary or substitutive approach to quantitative research in the study of agriculture or agricultural economics.
