Trends in Inter-industry Effects of Agricultural Materials Sector

This study analyzes the inter-industry relations of agricultural material sector with other industries and investigates changes in the relations over time. Based on input-output table from 1985 to current year, the production inducement effect, supply constraint effect, and price effect analysis were performed to see importance of the agricultural material sector and its relations with other industries by lapse of time. Results show that the seed & seedling sector has the smallest production inducement effect among the five agricultural material sectors, but the size of effect has increased each year. In the case of fertilizers, the effect has decreased since 1990, while for the sectors of feed, pesticides, and agricultural machinery the effects had decreased from 1995 to 2000, but the situation was reversed after 2003. In the case of supply constraint effect, the seed & seedling sector has the largest effect and the agricultural machinery sector has the smallest one. The effects of feed, fertilizers, and pesticides have slightly increased over time. The average size of the supply constraint effect is, as a whole, larger than that of the production inducement effect, probably because the agricultural material sector is located in the rear part of the map of entire domestic industry.
