The Effective Utilization of Industrial Property Rights Influencing the Management Performances of Agri-food Ventures

In order to continue the sustainable growth, companies should secure the higher competitiveness in the market. The competitiveness of a firm can be obtained by high technology, business-productivity and exact market information. Along with them, the industrial property rights are also important for companies to prolong their competitiveness. Many studies have been conducted to investigate the effects of industrial property rights on the business-performances. The CEO’s entrepreneurship may influence the active utilization of industrial property rights. The growth of agri-food ventures may also depend on their industrial property rights and the CEO s entrepreneurship in maintaining the growth. This research examined the effects of agri-food ventures’ technology innovation capabilities, their propensity for market-information orientation and their industrial property rights on their performances. We also investigated how the CEO’s entre-preneurship moderated their influences. By analyzing the data of 197 agri-food ventures, we obtained the following results. Firstly, the firm’s technology innovation capabilities and its propensity for market-information orientation proved to make the positive effects on the utilization of industrial property rights. Secondly, the propensity for market-information orientation exerted a positive influence on the performance. Thirdly, the industrial property rights made the positive influence on the technology commercialization capabilities, which upgraded the venture’s business performance in accordance. Thus, the industrial property rights indirectly affected the agri-food venture’s performance in terms of technology commercialization. These findings lead us to the conclusion that the effective management of industrial property rights tend to promise the prosperity of agri-food ventures.
