It is generally accepted that А. Akhmatova gradually transformed from the real lyric poet to the poet with epic characteristics. But, indeed, poetess’s narrative desire was particularly noticeable in her earliest lyric poems. Her early lyrical poems are characterized as “small novels”(N.N. Ventcel), “small novels, short stories”(V.M. Zhirmunsky), “novels-miniatures”(V.V. Gippius), “lyrics-novels”(B.M. Eikhenbaum). Breathing the spirit of time and hearing “the voice of time”, she, who had written miniature-poems with the internal and lyrical events, began to pay attention to the external and epic events of the world. In this paper we attentively examine characteristic features of the early and late epic poems of Akhmatova ― Epic Motives (1913-1915), Near the Sea (1914), The Tale of the Black Ring (1917-1936), Northern Elegies (1921-1964), Requiem (1935-1940), The Way of all the Earth (1940), Poem without a Hero (1940-1942) ―, paying attention to important and interconnected concepts-ideas such as the lyrical and epic narratives, autopresentation and self-narrative, metanarrative, syuzhet(polt).
