A Biblical Model for the Conversation and Consilience of Disciplines : For the Korea-Russia Cooperation in the Russian Far East

Given the intensifying risk situation in the contemporary society, modern humanities, social science and natural science, specialized extremely and secluded from the reality, have not managed the vicious circle of risk factors, which made their communication and consilience come to the fore as a breakthrough. However, from the biblical viewpoint, the inability of the modern disciplines to manage the risk situation is mainly attributed to the self-contradiction and self-destruction of modern and so-called ‘post-modern’ discourses, with Enlightenment, utilitarianism, and relative positivism as basic cognitive frameworks. The fundamental solution is to restructure and integrate all disciplines into one complex based on universal and absolute values securing the voluntary and sustainable development. This study aims to suggest a biblical alternative model of communication and consilience of the three disciplines, which are characterized by the restoration of theology based on biblical principles as the axis and the reflection and selective integration of biblical and meaningful elements from self-reflective Romanticism, Symbolism, Modernism, Orthodoxy-centric Russian Religious Philosophy, and theological turn in the West and Russia. The biblical model can be applied to regional studies for the Korea-Russia cooperation for risk management and sustainable development in Russian Far East. For example, Korea-Russia agricultural cooperation, which has faced many difficulties because of the above-mentioned risk factors in Korea and Russia, could be realized more successfully, supported by biblical interdisciplinary studies and education program. It will integrate the spiritual and ethical dimensions of life, contributing to the sustainable development of all Northeast Asian countries.
