Competitive Advantage of Chilean Fruit Indu stry and Trade Outlook

According to the measurement of Revealed Competitive Advantage (RCA) indices, relative competitiveness for grapes, plum, kiwi, pears and apples were higher than any other Chilean agricultural products. Climatic and geological conditions, market oriented agricultural policies as well as the plantational structure and development of processing, marketing and logistic systems for export were the sources of competitiveness of Chilean fruit industry. Export of Chilean fruits toward Korea would steeply increase as Korea-Chile free trade agreements are come into effects. Small-sized Korean fruit farmers should lower the costs and raise the quality of their products. At the same time, they should promote the development of fruit processing industry.
