Current Status and Shared Ownership of Agricultural College Research Farms in Korea

Survey questionnaires were distributed to a total of 45 agricultural colleges in the county in January and the answers were returned from a total of 26 colleges. The colleges for study were of 22 national universities and 25 private universities listed in the Directory of Professors in Agricultural Colleges (Agricultural Deans Committee in Korea, 1999). Most agricultural colleges encounter financial problems in providing students with favorable facilities for their field studies. Therefore, there comes a great need for an efficient system of sharing college-based resources according to the major focuses of individual colleges and to the contribution of the faculty members available. A possible solution to this problem is to establish an experimental and practice farm with which all universities can share abundant farming resources. And also, through the practical experiences at the farm, students will receive very competitive educational opportunities. This can also provide absolute opportunities of cooperation and communication between colleges in Korea and other countries.
