Comparison Between Korean and Japanese Agricultural Policies Under the WTO

Under the WTO changing the existing international trade patterns, the followings are to summarize the current topics from comparing the Korean agricultural policies with those of Japan. First, they have the domestic policies in common, which is to have improved the existing agricultural policies and to have invested the tremendous amounts of policy funds in their own agricultures for their own protection and the increase of their products competitive power. Its results appear not to be significant due to their structural drawbacks. Second, Korean strategies for the next WTO negotiation are different from those of Japan. While those of Korean government are based on The Fundamental Laws of Agriculture and Rural Districts effective from the year of 2000, those of Japanese based on their suggestions announced to it on June of 1999.
