The Out-Flow Structure of Rural Population in Colonial Chonbuk

This article has attempted to sketch out how the out-flow of rural population in the 1930 s did affect to the landlord system, K. Hori and other s recent studies give convincing answers to many questions in regard to impacts of out-flow of rural population on the colonial economy in the 1930 s. But these studies have not been devoted to a detailed examination of the relationships between out-flow of rural population and landlord system in the colonial economy. I m exploring the questions of changes in rural population, this paper will be focused on the capitalistic nature of the colonial landlord system. The conclusion which can be drawn from the study on the flow of rural population in Chonbuk province are these: 1) There was sufficient room for enough in-flow tenants to engage in farming, in spite of massive changes in labour market. 2) The industrial development in the 1930 s did not affect the destruction of the colonial landlord system.
