A Study on the Development plan for Korean Native Cattle Cooperative

Since 1997 with the change of internal and external circumstances, conditions in Korean cattle industry have weakened. It is much worried that this might lead to the destroying the foundation of Korean cattle industry. The paper tries to seek the ways of stable development through the Cooperative of Korean Cattle. 2,840,000 cattle heads at the end of the year 1996 decreased to 1,400,000 heads by the of the year 2001. The number of farm houses raising cattle dramatically decreased from 513,000 in 1996 to 235,000 at the end of the year 2001. To overcome the difficulties and to develop Korean cattle industry securely, the writer suggests: First, organize the small-sized farmhouses through cooperatives to realize the sized economy. Second, wage competitive price through reducing production cost. Third, differentiate the quality of Korean beef with that of imported one by producing new brands of high quality beef.
