An Analysis of the Determinants of Performance of Rural Industrial Parks -A case of Chungbuk-do

We consider here the operating conditions of Rural Industrial Parks(RIPs), the determinants that influence their performance in Chungbuk-do(CB). First, as for the operating conditions of RIPs; there are 38 RIPs occupying a area of 487km² in Chungbuk-do. Those have been developed between 1984~2001. The first to be developed was Jincheon RIP. The average ratio of land sold of RIPs in CB is 99.7%. That ratio is higher than the korean average ratio which is 96.7%. Second, on the basis of theory of industrial location, we discover that RIPs in CB satisfies only 2 out of 6 determinants. These are the selling price and policies of government. Therefore we see that RIPs in CB have not been developed on the basis of the theory of industrial location. Finally, may I wake some suggestions: RIPs should be developed on the basis of the theory of industrial location for performance of RIPs.
