An Economic Analysis and Implications of Price Flexibility Function in Tangerine Industry

In Korean agriculture, the chronic issue is coupled with oversupply of farm commodities during the given-period, thus causing a shipment exodus and price fluctuation. The tangerine is also typical without an exception. The prevailing problem in the tangerine industry is about how to deal with the farm household income maximization via a proper production and shipment control. To this end, it is critical to analyze the process of price structure and sale in the tangerine, regarding the period, the region and the marketing milieu. This study focuses on examining the existing shipment/circulation structure of the tangerine and moreover suggesting somewhat statistical significance in analysis. This analysis would imply some landmark to conciliate shipment in terms of the period, the region and the market system in the tangerine sector. Compared with the previous study, my findings in this study explicitly displays that the price rise effect has diminished by the real income growth, while the price fluctuation has become wider by the shipment quantity increase in tangerine. This is because the width of price-downturn in the tangerine has enlarged, while some fruits (i.e., sweet persimmon, imported orange, green-house strawberry) to replace the tangerine simultaneously increase in the market demand. In order to survive in competition with other fruits, the tangerine growers seriously need to enhance its quality, as well as to conciliate its shipment amount.
