The purpose of this analysis is to find out what impact rice yield changes from the concentration of ozone, one of major air pollutants, can give to social surplus. For this purpose, dose-response function is used to clarify relations between rice production and the concentration of ozone. This study covers seven regions in Korea, Gyeonggi-do, Chungcheongbuk-do, Chungcheongnam-do, Jenlabuk-do, Jenlanam-do, Gyeongsangbuk-do, and Gyeongsangnam-do, where 91.3% of the entire Korean rice production is made. The rice yield increased by 1.5%, 3%, and 7% respectively when the level of ozone concentration reduced by 5%, 10%, and 20% compared to those in 2000. From calculating social surplus of Korea by using the optimization model, about 420 billion won, 830 billion won, and 1.73 trillion won of social surplus are estimated to be additionally generated in each case when 5%, 10%, and 20% of ozone concentration decrease in comparison with that of 2000.
