The Case Study on Classification and Pluriactivity of Farm in Less Favored Rural Area

The objectives of this case study were to identify characteristics of farm structures, classification and pluriactivity of farm in less favored rural areas. Four factors were selected by theory and factor scores. They were farm family and labor factor, land utilization factor, machinary utilization factor and nonfarm income factor. The farm classified six types based on factor analysis and cluster analysis. They were large sized owner custom farm, large sized tenant farm, small sized owner rice farm, small sized owner upland crop farm, leased farm and non-farm. The objectives and strategies of six types of farm were different but they played multi-functional and complementary role in maintaining agriculture and community and of conserving environment, culture and ecosystem. The policy implication of this study were agricultural policy should be diversified to encompass various types of farm and to encourage structural improvement and broader participation of farm to community activity in less favored rural areas.
