This paper investigates the effect of meat market liberalization in Korea on the price variability and production stability. Hanwoo industry is selected for the analysis since the consistent trade data is available. The development of the Korean beef market liberalization may or may not reduce the beef price variability according to the economic theory. On the other hand, it is not theoretically obvious that the beef market liberalization may affect negatively the Hanwoo production stability. This paper finds empirical evidence that domestic beef price variability declines as the beef market liberalization is developed. This study also supports that the Hanwoo production has been gradually discouraged by opening of the beef market.
