This study primarily aims to calculate the pork carcass price index which can be used as a final settlement price for lean hog futures as well as a bench mark price for cash hog transactions. The index is calculated as a two-stage weighted average of carcass prices for slaughtered hogs. Among six alternatives of the index, the national average price index including fourteen livestock wholesale markets was chosen as best fit for pork carcass price index, based on six selection criteria.
