Traditional trade theories based on the homogeneity assumption do not consider the effect relative market sizes on trade liberalization. However, recent theoretical considerations and empirical findings suggest the relative market sizes between countries have been important role in explaining trade flows after trade liberalization. This article empirically examines the relationship between relative market sizes and the pattern of agricultural trade using a detailed agricultural trade data between the US and Canada under the free trade agreement(CUSFTA). This study finds that CUSFTA more than proportionately stimulates agricultural export from Canada to U.S., which is a supporting evidence of national product differentiation model.
