Do Experiences of Rural Tourism Influence the Non Use Value of Contingent Valuation Estimates from Multi-functionality of Rural Areas?

This article compared the non-market valuation estimates from the multi- functionality of rural areas between rural tourist and non-rural tourist. A dichotomous choice of contingent valuation method was applied to the positive externalities provided by Korean rural areas. Willingness-to-pay models by the tow counterparts were tested using likelihood ratio test procedure. The Krinsky-Robb simulation was also used to construct intervals around benefit estimates derived from the logit models to determine whether there was a significant difference in WTP estimates between the two counterparts. The logit equations were statistically different between two versions and the confidence intervals around mean WTP results were also significantly different. In conclusion, rural tourism was considered as a factor that increased the recognition of the non-market value of rural multi-functionality.
